About Descript

Descript is a text-based audio and video editor. You edit your words to edit your video, and its site lists tools for removing filler words and retakes, shortening word gaps and removing silence, adding subtitles, screen recording and multitrack audio editing.

Descript is available as a desktop app for macOS and Windows and in the browser at web.descript.com. It has dedicated podcasting features, including remote recording, Studio Sound audio enhancement and publishing to hosting services, which makes it a strong fit for podcasts and long-form video.

Choose PopScript if…

  • You film and edit on your iPhone and do not want to move files to a computer.
  • Your videos are short talking-head clips for TikTok, Reels or Shorts.
  • You want filler words, silences and restarts cut automatically before you even start reviewing.
  • You want to share to TikTok or Instagram straight from the editor.

Choose Descript if…

  • You edit podcasts or long-form video and want a desktop or browser editor.
  • You record remote interviews and want recording and editing in one place.
  • You need multitrack audio editing or screen recording.
  • You work on a Mac or Windows computer and prefer a bigger screen.

Same idea, different place to work

Descript is a well-known text-based editor, and PopScript shares its core idea: the transcript is the edit. The difference is where you do it.

Descript is built for a computer. PopScript is built for the phone you filmed on. If your workflow is film, edit and post from your iPhone, that removes the step of getting footage onto a laptop. Read more on editing a video using a transcript.

Cleanup that happens before you review

In PopScript, the cleanup is the default. After transcription, filler words, silences and repetitions are already cut, and they stay visible as crossed-out words. Your job is to read and tap to restore anything you want back.

That fits short-form talking-head videos, where almost every um and pause should go. For long interviews and podcasts, where you might want more control over each cut, a desktop editor like Descript can be the better fit.

Short-form output

  • Resize to 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9 in PopScript.
  • Captions come from your cleaned transcript, with style presets and find and replace.
  • Export from 480p up to 4K and share to TikTok, Instagram or Stories from the share row.

Frequently asked questions

Is PopScript a Descript alternative?

For short talking-head videos edited on iPhone, yes. Both edit video through the transcript. For podcasts, long-form and desktop work, Descript is designed for that and PopScript is not.

Does PopScript work on Mac or Windows?

No. PopScript is an iPhone app only. There is no desktop, web or Android version.

Can both tools remove filler words automatically?

Yes. Descript lists filler word removal as a feature. PopScript cuts filler words automatically after transcription and keeps them visible, crossed out, so you can restore any of them.

Which is better for TikTok talking-head videos?

If you film and post from your phone, PopScript keeps the whole workflow there. If you already edit on a computer, Descript can handle short clips too. Try both on the same clip and see which fits.
